Sullivan’s Gulch – Our Newest Suite Addition

There’s nothing like planning a destination wedding. Having the opportunity to share that special day with friends and family in a beautiful location is always a fun and exciting time. With wedding season fast approaching, we’ve been getting busy with invitations, RSVP cards, programs, and so much more. We’re huge fans of working with brides – or even grooms! – who want something customized to suit their special day. Whether it be having a quote that has a special meaning to the couple, highlighting the location, or even enclosing some fun things that the guest may experience when they come to the wedding, we’re more than happy to help achieve that goal.

One of our newest suites is uniquely named ‘Sullivan’s Gulch’. Customized for our client who wanted something fun but still formal, the blue and white solidified the dressy occasion while the map and small compass maintained playful details. We especially loved the Winnie The Pooh quote! Shown below is their invite, reply card, and folding information card.

Our Favorite Portland Wedding Locations

portland_oregon_wedding_invitations_photographer_mt_hood_2

We love being based in Portland, Oregon. Depending on where we want to go, we’re only a car ride away from it – from snowboarding or skiing up at Mount Hood in the Winter, to doing some crabbing and fishing on the Oregon Coast, to going wine tasting in the Willamette Valley. Lucky for brides-to-be in Portland, they have a wide selection as to what venue to choose and where to have it – and that goes with invitations and every little detail.

As Portlanders, there are so many amazing Portland-only landmarks worth taking pictures at or even near when it comes to having some wedding photos done o n the big day. Here are our top ten favorites located in and around the Portland area, with all photos by our friend, Bryan Aulick, in no particular order:

1. Powell’s Books: 1005 W Burnside St.

We love this location because of its colorful array of books, along with different rooms of such amazing colors.

2. Voodoo Donuts: 22 SW 3rd Avenue (Downtown) and 1501 NE Davis St (NE). With not just one but TWO locations to choose from, you can get your wedding… and donuts, too!

3. The International Rose Test Garden: 400 SW Kingston Ave. The garden looks amazing during the summer months, and especially in the middle of the Summer/beginning of Fall, when all the roses are in full bloom.

4. Stumptown Coffee: 128 SW 3rd Ave, 1026 SW Stark St, 100 SE Salmon St, 4525 SE Division Street, 3356 SE Belmont Street

With five locations to choose from, it’s no wonder that Portland is known for our Stumptown coffee!

5. ‘Made In Oregon’ sign: Burnside bridge heading into Old Town. This historic sign has changed several times, but now has become an icon in Portland.

6. Cathedral Park: Located in St.John’s, N Edison Street and Pittsburg Avenue

portland_oregon_wedding_invitations_photographer_Cathedral Park

Cathedral Park is beautifully captured with not only an amazing view of the water and hills, but of St.John’s bridge.

7. Pittock Mansion: 3229 NW Pittock Dr. The views of Portland from this incredible mansion is breathtaking. No shot will be wasted when taking photos at this beautiful location.

8. Forest Park: 4099 NW Thurman Street

portland_oregon_wedding_invitations_photographer_Forest Park

Who would’ve known that just a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Portland, you can get in touch with nature? This beautiful park boasts some great hiking paths and views.

9. Portland Japanese Garden in Washington Park. With an array of flowers, and according to their website, ‘the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan’, this garden will have you wanting to take some home for yourself!

10. Union Pine: 525 SE Pine Street

A versatile and beautiful space, Union Pine will definitely turn your wedding into a party all your guests will be talking about – not to mention their aesthetic is pleasing to the eyes.

As always, we’re more than happy to customize your invitations to your colors, and most importantly, your location. Click here to see how you can create the invitations and so much more for your big day. Unsure of where to begin? Introducing Our New BFF :: Janice Pimentel!

Janice_Pimentel_Details_Manager_Portland_Oregon_Wedding_InvitationsHello, lovelies and greetings from Portland, Oregon!

My name is Janice, and I’m the newest member of the Tie That Binds team! With my love for all things Stationery, and my previous background working with one in Canada, I’d like to believe that fate brought me here. Like Monica from Friends, I take joy in the smallest details which include organizing – and please, don’t get me started on my endless obsession with Post-It notes and notebooks! You’ll often find me with my little Shih Tzu, Gemma (she’s the one I’m holding in this photo!), taking strolls around Portland, flipping through the latest fashion magazine, ducking into a thrift shop looking for a new knick knack, or driving out to the Coast with my husband on sunny weekends.

During my time here and working with Tie That Binds, I’ll be the wedding detail coordinator. Think of me as the best friend in all things wedding details – from save the dates, invitations, and coordinating thank-you cards, to reception menus, signage, and favors. I’ll be more than happy to keep you organized, scheduled, and most importantly – on time for the big day!

On this lovely blog, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite wedding inspiration, giving amazing how-to’s, tips and tricks on wedding details, and some helpful and hopefully useful information. I’ll also be sharing what we’re doing in the studio to make you, and all our clients, happy.

If you have any suggestions on a blog topic, any of our products, or just want to say hello, feel free to give me a shout! I would love to hear everything and anything about your big day.

Till then!

xo,
Janice

Here are a few juicy details from the girls over at True Event:

This exquisite wedding made us yearn for warmer days. Katie and Gui said “I do” on a picture perfect late summer day, with the water set as their backdrop at a private residence in Jamestown, RI. This gorgeous summer wedding gave way to cocktails enjoyed outside on the oceans edge with beautiful blue and white ikat patterned linens. The ambiance was enhanced as dinner and dancing continued under a Sperry tent, rich with lush textures and romantic creams and blushes. The linens on the tables were breathtaking rosettes that mirrored the bottom of the bride’s gown. Guests could take a break from dancing and enjoy a drink and conversation on one of the velvet couches surrounding the dance floor. No detail was left unturned at this romance filled wedding, some of the top details were the perfect shade of purple bed of hydrangeas that the guest cards were placed on, patterned flip flops for the guests tired dancing feet, crystal chandelier hanging from the tent top and the most beautiful flowers from the bouquets to the centerpieces designed by Hana Floral Design. One of our favorite parts of this show-stopping wedding was the stunning sunset that painted the sky pink, the perfect gift for the newlyweds to enjoy on their wedding night! Leila Brewster captured the beauty of this wedding perfectly!

Top 5 Reception Details that Brides Forget…

If there is one thing we excel at here at Tie That Binds, it’s working under a tight deadline. In the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding many things can fall by the wayside and be forgotten until the last minute. Not to worry, we are here for you!
I’ve compiled a list of the most common things that we overnight in the coming wedding season. If you’re anything like me, you prefer to have everything lined up BEFORE the last moment…

SIGNAGE…
8
It’s common for brides to plan their reception decor and completely overlook the fact that guests will still need direction. Where you have spent HOURS picturing and planning what will go where, who will do what, and when it will happen, the wedding day will come and your guests will be looking for the bathroom, sitting at tables you intended for family, and forgetting to sign the guestbook.
How we can help: We have a vast signage collection that can include your custom wording. Our most commonly requested signage includes:
“Reserved Seating” – Bridal Party, Family of the Groom, Family of the Bride
“Sign Our Guestbook”
“Please Enjoy a Favor on Us!”
“The Couple’s Signature Cocktail…”
We also suggest that you ask your venue’s event coordinator about the problems they have seen, and what has worked best in the past. Try to view your venue and wedding day with “fresh eyes” and anticipate what your guests will need.

THOUGHTFUL FAVORS…
CustomFavor
Although it seems they will come together quickly, assembling mass amounts of guest gifts is no easy task. (Trust me.) I often see brides work late into the night the week before the wedding putting finishing touches on their favors. It’s a problem for a few reasons- 1. It cuts into much-needed beauty sleep, 2. It’s stressful and compromises the fun factor of planning your wedding day, and 3. Rushing and late nights usually mean lower quality and less-thoughtful gifts.
How we can help: We offer custom favor design – which means anything you can dream up, we want to create for you. Consider your love story and what sets you aside as a couple. Do you have a favorite sports team? Family recipe? Unique wedding destination? We want to help create a meaningful favor for your guests.
Of course if you waited too long and need a quick and thoughtful favor, reach out to us! We offer many favor tags and stickers that can be adhered to any item, making even the most last-minute favor thoughtful and classy.

SEATING CHARTS, TABLE NUMBERS, PLACE CARDS, & ESCORT CARDS…

This is a little unfair because the guest list fluctuates a lot between the RSVP date and the big day. No matter how reliable your guests may seem, many of them will need to change their response in the weeks before the wedding. If you’re doing a formal seating arrangement, this can add mayhem to a constantly changing spreadsheet.
How we can help: If you’re ordering place or escort cards with table numbers, let us know ahead of time. We can start on the design for both, and leave plenty of room for design adjustments and tweaks. When the design is completely perfect, send us your list of attending guests on the RSVP deadline.  We will fill in the table number and straggler guests quickly before the wedding day.

MENUS…

So easy yet so hard. Menus, whether they be large signage or at each place setting are a stunning and memorable detail for your wedding reception. However, caterers don’t typically need the final food decisions until 2-4 weeks before the wedding, which creates a perfect storm of procrastination for brides and grooms.
How we can help: In the same way as table numbers, ask us to start the design before you’ve settled on your menu. The content can be changed as needed, making the last-minute addition completely stress-free.
If you’ve decided you prefer the large signage style menu, plan ahead for how you will display your board or banner. We can accommodate much more with a little heads-up and pre-ordering of supplies.

THANK-YOU CARDS…

Oh the dreaded thank-you cards. After the honeymoon and vacation bliss, you return to a to-do list of more addressing! To avoid confusion and frustration, assign someone to keep a list of who-gave-what when you open your gifts, making it much easier to thank each guest for their gift by name.
How we can help: We now offer guest-address printing services with your invitation order. In addition to creating thank-you cards that match your exact wedding suite and colors, we will print your thank-you addresses at a discount the second time around.
*Another helpful hint: If you intend to tip the vendors on the wedding day (which is very-much encouraged!) make a trip to the bank a few days in advance. Put each vendors cash tip in their own envelope with a thank-you card, and label their name on the front. On the morning of, give the bundle to a trusted bridal party member to handle when each vendor comes into play on the wedding day. Your thoughtfulness will be very appreciated!
