Vintage-Themed Weddings

Living in a city like Portland, it’s not a surprise that there are so many eclectic styles and diversities. A favorite of ours is anything that has to do with vintage – everything from the tiny details of lace made from the 1950’s to wedding dresses and gowns fragile to put on but beautiful to wear. With particular and delicate details when it comes to a vintage-inspired wedding, our invitations and custom products will help you achieve that style and theme you are looking for.

Some of our items that include giving your wedding a vintage feel include using rubber stamps on various items – from envelopes, to labels – which would have a monogram of your initials. A favorite among our previous brides include matchboxes, which can be fully customized with initials, names, and dates. We also do custom tags to hang from mason jars, along with napkins, signage, table numbers and so much more.

Sullivan’s Gulch – Our Newest Suite Addition

There’s nothing like planning a destination wedding. Having the opportunity to share that special day with friends and family in a beautiful location is always a fun and exciting time. With wedding season fast approaching, we’ve been getting busy with invitations, RSVP cards, programs, and so much more. We’re huge fans of working with brides – or even grooms! – who want something customized to suit their special day. Whether it be having a quote that has a special meaning to the couple, highlighting the location, or even enclosing some fun things that the guest may experience when they come to the wedding, we’re more than happy to help achieve that goal.

One of our newest suites is uniquely named ‘Sullivan’s Gulch’. Customized for our client who wanted something fun but still formal, the blue and white solidified the dressy occasion while the map and small compass maintained playful details. We especially loved the Winnie The Pooh quote! Shown below is their invite, reply card, and folding information card.

We’re more than happy to customize any suite we have available, just let us know! Visit our website, or if you have even more ideas, shoot Janice an e-mail, and she’ll get back to you.

Our Favorite Portland Wedding Locations

We love being based in Portland, Oregon. Depending on where we want to go, we’re only a car ride away from it – from snowboarding or skiing up at Mount Hood in the Winter, to doing some crabbing and fishing on the Oregon Coast, to going wine tasting in the Willamette Valley. Lucky for brides-to-be in Portland, they have a wide selection as to what venue to choose and where to have it – and that goes with invitations and every little detail.

As Portlanders, there are so many amazing Portland-only landmarks worth taking pictures at or even near when it comes to having some wedding photos done o n the big day. Here are our top ten favorites located in and around the Portland area, with all photos by our friend, Bryan Aulick, in no particular order:

1. Powell’s Books: 1005 W Burnside St.

We love this location because of its colorful array of books, along with different rooms of such amazing colors.

2. Voodoo Donuts: 22 SW 3rd Avenue (Downtown) and 1501 NE Davis St (NE). With not just one but TWO locations to choose from, you can get your wedding… and donuts, too!

3. The International Rose Test Garden: 400 SW Kingston Ave. The garden looks amazing during the summer months, and especially in the middle of the Summer/beginning of Fall, when all the roses are in full bloom.

4. Stumptown Coffee: 128 SW 3rd Ave, 1026 SW Stark St, 100 SE Salmon St, 4525 SE Division Street, 3356 SE Belmont Street

With five locations to choose from, it’s no wonder that Portland is known for our Stumptown coffee!

5. ‘Made In Oregon’ sign: Burnside bridge heading into Old Town. This historic sign has changed several times, but now has become an icon in Portland.

6. Cathedral Park: Located in St.John’s, N Edison Street and Pittsburg Avenue

Cathedral Park is beautifully captured with not only an amazing view of the water and hills, but of St.John’s bridge.

7. Pittock Mansion: 3229 NW Pittock Dr. The views of Portland from this incredible mansion is breathtaking. No shot will be wasted when taking photos at this beautiful location.

8. Forest Park: 4099 NW Thurman Street

Who would’ve known that just a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Portland, you can get in touch with nature? This beautiful park boasts some great hiking paths and views.

9. Portland Japanese Garden in Washington Park. With an array of flowers, and according to their website, ‘the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan’, this garden will have you wanting to take some home for yourself!

10. Union Pine: 525 SE Pine Street

A versatile and beautiful space, Union Pine will definitely turn your wedding into a party all your guests will be talking about – not to mention their aesthetic is pleasing to the eyes.

As always, we’re more than happy to customize your invitations to your colors, and most importantly, your location. Click here to see how you can create the invitations and so much more for your big day. Unsure of where to begin? Shoot Janice an e-mail, and she’ll be more than happy to help you begin this exciting and fun design process!

Introducing Our New BFF :: Janice Pimentel!

Janice_Pimentel_Details_Manager_Portland_Oregon_Wedding_InvitationsHello, lovelies and greetings from Portland, Oregon!

My name is Janice, and I’m the newest member of the Tie That Binds team! With my love for all things Stationery, and my previous background working with one in Canada, I’d like to believe that fate brought me here. Like Monica from Friends, I take joy in the smallest details which include organizing – and please, don’t get me started on my endless obsession with Post-It notes and notebooks! You’ll often find me with my little Shih Tzu, Gemma (she’s the one I’m holding in this photo!), taking strolls around Portland, flipping through the latest fashion magazine, ducking into a thrift shop looking for a new knick knack, or driving out to the Coast with my husband on sunny weekends.

During my time here and working with Tie That Binds, I’ll be the wedding detail coordinator. Think of me as the best friend in all things wedding details – from save the dates, invitations, and coordinating thank-you cards, to reception menus, signage, and favors. I’ll be more than happy to keep you organized, scheduled, and most importantly – on time for the big day!

On this lovely blog, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite wedding inspiration, giving amazing how-to’s, tips and tricks on wedding details, and some helpful and hopefully useful information. I’ll also be sharing what we’re doing in the studio to make you, and all our clients, happy.

If you have any suggestions on a blog topic, any of our products, or just want to say hello, feel free to give me a shout! I would love to hear everything and anything about your big day.

Till then!

Whimsical Paper Garland

With the holidays quickly approaching, we’ll be sharing a few ideas for easy and beautiful holiday decor. On that note, while exploring antique shops this Veteran’s Day weekend, I discovered a strand of vintage paper garland that seems to be out of production now. It would be a gorgeous addition to any decor collection, so I came right home and attempted to create one for myself. It came together quite nicely I thought, although too complex for a blog DIY from start to finish.

SO. That leads to my next point – maybe I should create it as a DIY product. I would provide the pre-cut pieces of paper in the product (maybe a yummy lighter-weight cream paper) along with intructions for assembly? Hmm… Lots to think about!

Until then I’ll just dream about it. Look how pretty!
